ieat — photograph a meal, fix what we got wrong
Common questions
- The calorie estimate is wrong.
-
Fix it — that is a first-class feature, not a workaround. Tap the meal, then edit the items or
the totals directly. Changing an item's weight rescales its calories automatically. You can also
just say what was wrong in the chat: “that was half the size” works. Verdicts are recalculated
from your own targets every time you save, so they always describe the numbers actually stored.
- Why does it say “rough estimate”?
-
Because the model was not confident about that photograph — usually a dish where the portion is
hard to judge, or a food partly out of frame. The label is there so you know when to check the
grams rather than trusting the total.
- My daily target seems too high, or it will not go lower.
-
Targets stop at a floor: 1,200 kcal for women and 1,500 for men, applied after everything else
and without exception. The app tells you on screen when the floor is what you are seeing. This
is deliberate. Apps in this category routinely hand out targets in the 500–900 kcal range, and
that is not a diet, it is a medical problem waiting to happen.
- A meal landed on the wrong day.
-
Tell it so in the chat — “that was yesterday” moves it. Days roll over at midnight in your own
time zone, not UTC.
- Do I need an account?
-
No. The app works immediately with no sign-up. Signing in with Apple or Google only exists so
your diary survives losing your phone; if you sign in later, the diary you already have comes
with you. We ask for no name and no email address from either provider.
- What happens to my photographs?
-
They are analyzed and discarded — not stored on our server, and deleted from your phone after
the analysis. Only the result is kept. See the
privacy policy for the detail.
- How do I delete my account?
-
Settings → Delete everything. It erases your account, profile, meals and
sign-in link immediately and permanently. What you get back is a new empty account, not the old
one with the diary hidden. Nobody can undo it afterwards, including us.
- The app cannot reach the server.
-
Check your connection first. If it persists, email the address above with the time it happened.
A stalled analysis is normally the model taking too long rather than the app being broken; try
again and it usually goes through.
- Is this medical advice?
-
No. The figures are estimates from photographs, not measurements. If you have a medical
condition, talk to a doctor before making a significant change to what you eat.
Reporting something that looks wrong
Estimates that are badly off are genuinely useful to hear about, especially with the dish
described in words. Accuracy is measured against a public dataset, and the sample is small — real
meals from real kitchens are what improve it.
